THE CONTRACT BETWEEN US

Any contract for purchases made through the Website will be with Houghton Books of Turner Avenue, Exmouth, Devon EX8 2LF.

Houghton Books must receive payment of the whole of the price of the goods that you order before your order can be accepted. Once payment has been received Houghton Books will confirm that your order has been received by sending an email to you at the email address you provide on your order form. The email will include your name, the order number and the total price. The acceptance of your order brings into existence a legally binding contract between us.

Houghton Books are entitled to withdraw from any contract in the case of obvious errors or inaccuracies regarding the goods on our website. If we discover an error or inaccuracy in the advertised price of the goods that you have ordered, we will contact you as soon as possible by email. We will inform you of the correct price of the goods, and ask you if you wish to continue with the order at the amended price, or to cancel the order.

WITHDRAWAL BY YOU FROM THE CONTRACT

If you are a private purchaser and not buying goods on behalf of a business, there are certain circumstances when you may withdraw from the contract. This right to withdraw does not apply to business buyers.

You may withdraw your order for goods at any time up to the end of seven working days (not including weekends or bank holidays) after the day on which you have received the goods. You do not need to give any reason for withdrawing your order, but you must inform us in writing by email to office@houghtonbooks.co.uk. A phone call is not acceptable. The effective date for cancellations under the Distance Selling Regulations is the date on which you the customer gives notice of cancellation. Houghton Books will refund the full amount you have paid within 30 days. You, the customer, will be responsible for the cost of returning the ordered goods.

Once you have notified Houghton Books that you are cancelling your order, any sum debited to Houghton Books from your credit card will be re-credited to your account as soon as possible and in any event within 30 days of your order.

RETURNS AND REFUNDS

We endeavour to maintain excellent customer service and customer satisfaction. With that in mind, we guarantee the condition of every book as it is described on our website.

If you are dissatisfied with your purchase for any reason, please contact us within seven working days (not including weekends or bank holidays) after the day on which you have received the goods. To be eligible for a full refund of the purchase price, please ensure that you return the book within 30 days of receipt and in the same condition you received it in.

You will be refunded the return delivery costs, equal to the original delivery costs paid, if the return was a result of an error on Houghton Book's part. If the return was not as a result of an error on the part of Houghton Books, you will be responsible for the delivery costs.

The refund will be deposited back in your credit / debit card account. Once your refund has been credited, we will send you confirmation of the refund via email.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

We list availability information for products sold by us on the website. We cannot be more specific about availability. Dispatch estimates are just that, they are not guaranteed dispatch times. While we will try to keep to them, sometimes there might be a problem. As we process your order, we will inform you by e-mail if any products may be delayed or unavailable. Houghton Books will not be obliged to offer any additional compensation for disappointment suffered.

DELIVERY

Delivery will be made as soon as possible after your order is accepted, normally within 2 working days in the UK. Delivery outside the UK will be by airmail, Europe within 4 working days, the rest of the world within 6 working days. All delivery times are out of our control and subject to postal conditions but in any event within 30 days.

CUSTOMS CHARGES

When ordering goods for delivery overseas you may be subject to import duties and taxes, which are levied once, the package reaches the specified destination. Any charges for customs clearance must be borne by you. It is recommended that you check with your customs officials or post office for more information about import taxes/duties that may be payable to your online order.

LIABILITY

If the goods delivered are not what you ordered or are damaged or an incorrect quantity, Houghton Books shall have no liability to you unless you notify Houghton Books of the problem, in writing to office@houghtonbooks.co.uk within 10 working days of the delivery of goods in question.

If you do not receive goods ordered by you within 30 days of the date on which they were despatched to you, Houghton Books shall have no liability to you unless you notify Houghton Books in writing within 40 days of the date on which the goods were despatched to you. Under this condition, Houghton Books only obligation will be, at its option, to make good any shortage or non-delivery, to replace or repair any goods that are damaged or to refund to you the amount paid by you for the goods in question to the original method of payment. Houghton Books shall have no liability to pay any money to you by way of compensation other than to refund to you the amount paid by you for the goods in question.

EVENTS BEYOND OUR REASONABLE CONTROL

We will not be held responsible for any delay or failure to comply with our obligations under these conditions if the delay or failure arises from any cause that is beyond our reasonable control. This condition does not affect your statutory rights.

INVALIDITY

If any part of these conditions is unenforceable (including any provision in which Houghton Books excludes its liability to you) the enforceability of any other part of these conditions will not be affected.

COMPLAINTS

Houghton Books operate a complaints handling procedure, which is used to try to resolve disputes when they first arise. Correspondence and returns only to this address please. We have no facility to make cash sales.

For contractual purposes, you consent to receive communications from us electronically and you agree that all agreements, and other communications that we provide to you electronically satisfy any legal requirement that such communications be in writing. This condition does not affect your statutory rights.

GOVERNING LAW

The contract between us shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with English law, and the English courts shall have jurisdiction to resolve any disputes between us.

Once you place an order with Houghton Books you will proceed to the payments page.Sage, the company that hosts the secure payments page, is a Payment Service Provider, who process the card transaction. Sage complies with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard. This means our shopping software and administration systems do not have access to or store credit / debit card details.

If we change our Privacy Policy we will post the changes on this page so that you may be aware of them. We will also email you should we make any changes and give you a chance to ask us not to use your information in that way.

If you feel that your book should have arrived, please remember that in exceptional circumstances your book can take 7 - 10 days to be delivered. (Longer if you live outside the UK) Please contact us at office@houghtonbooks.co.uk so that we can look into the problem for you.

My book is damaged or wrong - what can I do?

If the book that you have received is the incorrect item or was damaged during delivery, you can return the book for a refund. You will be refunded the return delivery costs, equal to the original delivery costs paid, Please contact us at office@houghtonbooks.co.uk so that we can quickly rectify the problem for you.

I have changed my mind, I don't want the book - what can I do?

Please contact us at office@houghtonbooks.co.uk within seven working days (not including weekends or bank holidays) after the day on which you have received the goods. To be eligible for a full refund of the purchase price, please ensure that you return the book within 30 days of receipt and in the same condition you received it in. You will be responsible for the delivery costs
